Mad Art Gallery is proud to present Found Magazine with PostSecret on Tuesday, November 13th. To celebrate the release of FOUND #5 The Crime Issue, the Found madman duo of Davy & Peter Rothbart are back on the road for a 65-city, 36-state, 3-month rampage. The guys will be at Mad Art to share a trunk-load of sparkling, brand-new finds, and Peter will blast you with his new jams based on notes from FOUND #5. Found Magazine, created by Davy Rothbart and Jason Bitner, collects and catalogs found notes, photos, and other interesting items, publishing them in magazines, in books, and on its Web site. Items found and published have ranged from love letters to homework assignments, and they are contributed by people who find them in a variety of places such as city streets, bus seats, inside school desks, and so on. The seeds of Found Magazine were planted when co-creator Davy Rothbart found the now infamous (and our personal favorite) "Page Me Later" note mistakenly left on his car windshield. Intrigued and amused, Davy shared this peek into someone else's private life with his friends. He and Jason Bitner, a friend Davy met at an NPR pick-up basketball game in Chicago, began soliciting other found items from their circle of friends. Originally presented as photocopied fliers of some of the best finds, the pair realized the volume of found material they collected warranted a full magazine. Found caught on and is now an addictive pleasure for fans all across the world. In December of 2005 Alarm Clock Theatre Company, based in Boston, Massachusetts, created a play based entirely on pieces published in Found turning the text from several pieces into songs, scenes and short films. The critically acclaimed show won the Elliot Norton Award for Best Fringe Production. Along with Found, PostSecret is visiting for the first time. PostSecret is an ongoing community art project in which people mail their secrets anonymously on one side of a homemade postcard. It began as an art installation for Artomatic 2004 in Washington, D.C. and presented a simple concept. Completely anonymous people decorate a postcard and portray a secret that they had never previously revealed. No restrictions were made on the content of the secret; only that it must be completely truthful and must never have been spoken before. The result has been tens of thousands of ordinary people sending in postcards containing soulful art along with their secrets. If you would like to learn more about this exceptional project, watch the PostSecret video on YouTube. Found Magazine with PostSecret promises to be a great event for all of us who cannot resist a peak into someone else's life. Doors open at 7:00, show begins at 8:00. All ages welcome, and general admission is $15. A special VIP reception begins at 6:30, $65 gets you front-row seats, a bag of FOUND and PostSecret treasures, and we'll lock you in a jail cell with Davy Rothbart and Frank Warren. Tickets sales from this event will benefit Hopeline Network. Tickets are available at the door or you can purchase them in advance online. Cash bar available.
