POST POP, MFA Thesis Exhibition by Andy Magee

POST - POP will be a collection of found-material based sculptural works that draw upon subjective perceptions of ubiquitous objects and familiar iconography. This exhibition will reflect three years of graduate work, and is presented in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the Master of Fine Arts degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Andy Magee is a native of Arkansas who has resided in St. Louis City for the past twelve years. Magee earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arkansas State University , and is currently completing his Master of Fine Arts degree at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. His work has been recognized in many local and regional exhibitions, including an Award of Excellence for the acclaimed Nine One One + One exhibition at Art St. Louis, two purchase awards from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and the Grand Award for the 50th Annual Delta Exhibition hosted by the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock , Arkansas. Magee's work has also been featured in local, regional, and national media, including Today in St. Loius, Number Magazine, and Time Magazine's Person of the Year issue in 2008.
POST-POP will be Andy Magee's first solo exhibition in six years. His material-based assemblage works have their roots in Pop Art iconography, but with a Postmodernized incorporation of informed materials. The results of which are multi-layered interpretive works that evoke humor, challenge perception, and highlight cultural dualities.
