Opening reception September 4, 7 pm to 11 pm

Mad Art Gallery proudly presents Creatures and Narratives, work by Matthew Hamby and Jessica Roller. This exhibit opens with a free reception on Friday, September 4, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. and continues through September 29, 2009.

C. Matthew Hamby was born in Kettering, Ohio, and moved to Cincinnati in the early 1990's. He developed a deep passion for drawing in high school, which led him to pursue a BFA in Illustration from the Cleveland Institute of Art. He has since returned to Cincinnati where he continues to create and develop his illustrations for such clients as Marc Ecko "Cut & Sew", Cincinnati CityBeat and Cincinnati Gentlemen Magazine, and maintains a website for promotion and sales of his prints and T-shirts.

Born in Lima, Ohio, Jessica Roller felt a compulsion to draw throughout her childhood. She mostly drew people, varying in age and gender, giving her images specific personality and names. In college, Roller took a few art classes, but majored in philosophy. Roller found that studying philosophy ignited the same sort of intense thinking that her early drawings had nurtured. Graduating with a degree in philosophy, Roller returned to drawing and then moved on to painting. Painting allowed Roller to make art with all the compulsion and intuition she had as a child, but with the confidence and sophistication of an adult. Roller now paints full time and exhibits her work in gallery exhibitions and show and sells work at fine art festivals throughout the country.
